Monocular Smart Glasses

Smartglasses such as Google Glass which have an optical display over only one eye, often the right eye. The display allows a user to see slightly outside of their field of view without shifting their gaze.

Monoscopic VR

A Virtual Reality experience which is displayed with only one lens, creating a flatter image and less immersive visual experience than with stereoscopic VR.

Motion parallax

A method by which the eyes can judge distance as a person moves by perceiving that objects which are farther away seem to move less than objects which are close by. See also: parallax.

Motion platform

A controlled physical device which creates actual motion in order to simulate the motion experienced within a virtual environment.


Purposefully moving through space on a given course, on the internet as well as in the physical world. Virtual navigation requires the artificial production of the process of time as it exists in the physical world.

Navigation (VR)

Deliberate movement through a virtual environment.

Objects (VR)

Independent 3D shapes with which a user can interact in a virtual environment.

Occipital lobe

The rear region of the brain which receives and processes visual information.


Obscuring part or all of an object from view by positioning other objects in front of it.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

A method for turning handwritten or printed documents into information which can be read by machines. This eliminates the need for manual text entry, saving time and improving the processing of data.
