Air tap

Air tap is a core gesture of HoloLens, which is used to interact with virtual content. It‘s a tapping gesture with the hand held upright and similar to a mouse click or select.

Artificial Reality

Virtual environments created through the use of computers and audiovisual devices.

Augmented Reality

Enabling a user to simultaneously view both digital elements and the real world, usually with the assistance of special computer-enabled glasses.

Augmented Virtuality (AV)

Augmented Virtuality means to add some physical paramteres while being in a virtual world. The degree of immersion is usually very high. Using controllers and sensors to be able to move and grab virtual objects helps users to feel like a part of the virtual world.

Binocular Omni-Orientation Monitor

A 3D viewer connected to a stationary boom which allows a user to interact with a virtual environment by holding the viewer up to their eyes and moving freely in space. The viewer tracks the boom’s position and orientation and transmits the user’s viewing angle to the computer.


Bloom is a core gesture of HoloLens, which is used to always go back to the Start Menu. It‘s equivalent to pressing the Home Button of a smartphone.

CAVE (cave automatic virtual environment)

A virtual environment projected onto the walls and ceiling of a room to create the illusion of a fully immersive virtual reality.
